Tagua, also known as vegetal ivory, is the seed from a palm tree called Phytellephas Macrocarpa that grows in the rainforest located in the Pacific region, like Panama, Ecuador, and Colombia. This 5 to 6 meter tall palm tree takes about 15 years to give its first crop and can be harvested 3 times a year.

Tagua is a beige colored nut with incredible hardiness. Thanks to its amazing similarity to the animal ivory, Tagua helps prevent animals from being killed for their ivory. Its use also provides an alternative to cutting down rainforest for farming and offers new job opportunities for those artisans who work with the seed.

The crops are collected, dried, processed, and then turned into beautiful crafted pieces of jewelry, accessories, and decoration. The Tagua buttons and well know around the world.
